At the age of 22, I climbed atop the chair, bared a little body and soul and got my first tattoo. I wanted something that would be with me forever. I wanted something that would remain constant no matter how much I actually changed. What I found was, tattoos are not quite as constant as one might expect. It wasn't very long until my tattoo began to fade.
At 25, I had it touched up. At 28, I found myself once again ... in the chair ... touching up the same tattoo for a third time.
A tattoo is a work of art and a personal statement, but what many people don't realize -- what I didn't realize for a long time -- is that the sun ages our tattoos as viciously as it ages our bare skin.
Four years ago, I started researching products to protect my small tattoo. What I found was that short of slathering on regular sunscreen and creating a halo effect or paying exorbitant prices for "tattoo sunscreens" that really were no different and certainly no easier to put on, there was nothing on the market for protecting a tattoo like mine.
I began doing research. I endeavored to find the best-of-the-best in terms of ingredients necessary to protect ink from the sun, and the best options in terms of physical application. With nothing available on the market, I decided to make a product that was just as easy for me to put on as it was for a friend to put on me. Also, I wanted an SPF that would stay within the confines of the tattoo so that there wasn't that troublesome halo effect.
